Topic¶
Flexible mesh models allow for varying spatial resolution, but running high-resolution models in operations is often too costly. This project explores techniques for mapping from coarse- to fine-resolution models, such that only the coarse model needs to be run in operations, with the fine-resolution results being inferred via a mapping. The focus is on testing this in the Southern North Sea and Øresund using MIKE 21 HD.
Relevance to DHI¶
Enabling operational workflows with coarse-resolution models while maintaining high-resolution outputs would significantly reduce runtime and resource requirements. This could allow for long climate scenarios and fast ensemble forecasting.
What is the student's contribution¶
Develop and test a method for mapping coarse-resolution results to fine-resolution equivalents. Evaluate performance and accuracy tradeoffs. Deliverables: code, test case results, and technical documentation.
